You are here: Chapter 8: Using FootPrints > Customer Self Service > Workspaces

Workspaces

Customers can belong to multiple Workspaces. A Workspace is a sub-database or area within FootPrintswhich can have its own custom fields, options and users.  For example, if there are two separate areas to which you can submit Requests, such as Application Support and Enhancement Requests, FootPrints can be configured to keep Requests for the two areas in different Workspaces.

Change Workspaces from the Toolbar

If you are a member of multiple Workspaces, there is a Change Workspace link on the FootPrints Toolbar.  If you click the link, a list of Workspaces is displayed.  To switch Workspaces, click a name in the list.  Your screen refreshes and the homepage for the new Workspace is displayed.

Login Workspace Menu

When you first log into FootPrints, a drop-down menu is displayed that lists the Workspaces to which you belong.  Select the Workspace you want to enter from the drop-down menu.  This option is not provided to Customers who only belong to one Workspace.

As an alternative, you can display an icon for each Workspace when the customer is presented with a menu of Workspaces.

To enable the feature:

  1. Add the following line to the footprints\cgi\MRlocalDefs file:
  2. $PROJ_MENU_ICONS = 1;

  1. Upload the icons you wish to use to the footprints\html\MRimg directory.
  2. For each workspace to be accessed by the customers, a file named "menu_icon.txt" must exist in that workspace's "MR" directory which can be found in footprints\db\MASTERx\ where x is the Workspace ID.   The file etc\MRprojects can be used to determine each Workspace's ID. The contents of this file must be the name of the icon to be used with this workspace, e.g.: proj1.jpg.

If a Workspace's icon is not found or is not specified, the name of the Workspace is displayed is a live link, just like the image would have been.   Icons are not accompanied by the workspace name.

Requests in Multiple Workspaces

To check the status of your Requests for a Workspace, your browser must be in that Workspace.  The View Mine list only contains Requests for the Workspace that is currently displayed.  To see a list of your Requests in all Workspaces at once, there is a link entitled Requests from All Workspaces near the top of the View Mine page in each Workspace.  Click the link and a second browser window is opened with a list of all of your Requests in all of your Workspaces, including the Details and latest status.
